I’m sure you have heard the song “It’s Not Easy Being Green”. Well, at HPP we have made a commitment to go green – become more environmentally responsible – and we’ve taken to the challenge like a frog takes to the pond.
In addition to the obvious environmental benefits, operating a green business is good for our trading partners, our consumers, our associates, our community, and our shareholders. Learning new ways to conserve energy and eliminate waste creates a more efficient operation and allows us to keep cost in check while providing funds to invest in future environmentally responsible programs.
Our sustainability program starts with top management commitment and a desire to become educated in best in class sustainability protocols. In doing so we went ‘back to school’ and have adopted a continuing education program at HPP. At the same time, we have created a cross functional HPP Green team with representatives from all departments. The team consists of all volunteers and the excitement is evident throughout the organization.
We have made great strides in the areas of sourcing environmentally friendly packages, recycling of multiple mediums, and in waste control. We are committed to continue to develop the program with the ultimate goal of creating an enterprise that:
1 Embraces ‘best in class” sustainability procedures while becoming a leader
in the community.
2 Creates zero waste.
3 Be supplied 100% by renewable energy (carbon neutral).
It is true we remain tadpoles in the sustainability world but we look forward to our metamorphosis. We will leap into our new world with much eagerness. Along the way we have learned that it actually is “Easy Being Green”.
